"One of the unique selling points of the Holme Moss Hill Climb was its almost uniform gradient. From the slight downhill stretch off the starting line, the climb, as shown in this Greenwoods sponsored centre-spread, progressed on a virtually uninterrupted slope right to the conclusion of the one and a quarter-mile timed course. The “Devil’s Elbow” 90-degree right-hand bend was already, as can be seen, no longer used by the road over the hill to Glossop, but still featured as part of the climb. Sadly, we will not be using it, as it has never been “adopted” and thus is untarmacked."

"Saturday 7th August 1920 saw the first Holme Moss Hill Climb, organised jointly by the Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford Automobile clubs. The firstevent was won by Capt Malcolm Campbell driving his Blue Bird Talbot. Over the four years that followed, famous drivers of the day such as Archie Frazer Nash, Raymond Mays, Parry-Thomas and local favourite Eddie Hall, competed for FTD on the fearsome hill."
