In this video, I respond to a recent 5-minute video from Frank Gambale, legendary fusion guitarist, where he talks about the Australian National University cutting music programs — and why that’s a huge mistake. This problem goes far beyond one university. From Los Angeles to Australia, public schools and universities are gutting their music education programs, leaving fewer opportunities for students to learn an instrument.

I share my own experiences trying (and failing) to donate guitars to schools in need, why the students who could benefit most often have no music programs at all, and how this decline is impacting the next generation of musicians. I also talk about why learning music is vital for brain development, creativity, and lifelong fulfillment.

We’re in a valley for music education right now — but there’s still hope. Opportunities are shifting to private teachers, rock camps, and workshops like the upcoming Rock Me Vienna Guitar Camp in 2026, where I’ll be teaching alongside Frank Gambale, Andy Timmons, Angel Vivaldi, Kee Marcello, and more.
