Odie’s finishes are truly cross linking and molecular bonding. They do not need a sanding scratch pattern to adhere to. Odie’s finishes use the medium they are applied to as the catalyst to cure, not an added hardener or part 2 catalyst. Finishes that contain an added hardener (sometimes called a cross linker) cross link and bond molecularly to the catalyst while then relying on a scratch pattern or acceptable material to mechanically latch onto, hence the typical sanding restrictions and limited uses advised with such finishes. Think of wood for example as a dried out sponge, it used to carry water and nutrients up the tree. Once cut and dried the majority of this water has been removed, leaving room for Odie’s finishes to penetrate and saturate those dried out cells/fibers of the wood to be replenished with our natural oils and waxes, where a true cross link and molecular bond occurs as the finish cures. This creates an unbreakable bond, meaning the only way to wear the finish away is to wear the wood away itself. This not only occurs in wood but to a great variety of surfaces including but not limited to metal, leather, concrete, plastic, vinyl, stone and more! Truly a universal finishing system unique to Odie’s.
