Oba Limidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III was the 44th Alaafin of Oyo. He reigned from 1971 to 2022. He died on 22 April.
He was 83.
His father Oba Adeyemi II was deposed and sent into exile in 1954 for political reasons. He was succeeded by Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II who died in 1968.
Due to political intrigues, the throne was vacant for almost three years.

In this 2012 interview, a former Governor of Oyo State Dr Omololu Olunloyo explains the highwire back and forth behind the making of Alaafin Adeyemi III. Olunloyo was the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters when Adeyemi III was selected to sit on the throne.
