Star Trails: Photography tips for using Lightroom and Photoshop to make startrails

Startrails: Make your night photography more interesting.
After taking a large series of shots trying to capture some meteors, I re-purposed the pictures to create star trails. Then I realized that a lot of photographers may not know how simple it is to make startrails.

The pictures show the curved apparent movement of the stars. They don't require a lot of special equipment or software.

This is basic, time-lapse, night time star photography of stars.
Instead of taking 1 super-long, high-risk picture, you can take a crisp picture regularly, and stack them together later.

Many interesting pictures come from pointing a lens towards the north star, so that the trails are concentric curves mid-picture. Personally, I prefer to have the north off-center, so the image has more interest (avoiding the 'bullseye' effect).

I also show both some basic nighttime processing in Lightroom, and final stacking/assembly of the image in Photoshop. The thumbnail image for this video was the final result from the pictures you will see being processed.
