The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli

Simple, clear, and always surprising, this indispensable book will change the way you think and transform your decision-making-work, at home, every day. It reveals, in 99 short chapters, the most common errors of judgment, and how to avoid them.

★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ 6/10

A book about our psychological biases and critical thinking.

I noticed that many people who read extensively from the category of critical thinking point out Dobelli's plagiarism. I even found this link showing the author's apparent "inspiration" by other authors - http://www.fooledbyrandomness.com/dob....

BUT I still think this book is worth reading since the biases and information presented are interesting and nicely summarized. I would see this book as a summary of psychological biases presented by the other authors - it's like if you would be taking notes for yourself on different psychological biases and then decided to put all these information into a book.

GOOD: great summary of psychological biases
VS BAD: the humor the author uses is certainly not my kind of tea. As is his rather cynical and pessimistic outlook on life. I quite resented it and rolled my eyes on some of the author's "funny" comments.

IS THIS A BOOK FOR YOU? If you are interested in psychology and want to make better choices in life this is a book for you.

If you have more time there are plenty of better books to read (such as Thinking fast and slow or Predictably Irrational) but if you want A) get as much summarized information as possible B) are just starting with the topic of critical thinking and are not sure if you will enjoy it, give this book a try.

FAVORITE QUOTE: "The intuitive mind is swift, spontaneous, and energy-saving. Rational thinking is slow, demanding, and energy-guzzling."
