Helgeroa og Mølen

Mølen in Larvik in Vestfold is part of an end moraine from the Ice Age, the large row that stretches from Finland through Sweden and along the Norwegian coast all the way to the Kola Peninsula.
The Battle of Nesjar is the first accurately dated event in Norwegian history. It happened on Palm Sunday, March 25, 1016 at Mølen and Værvågen outside Helgeroa in Brunlanes, Larvik. It is considered one of the most decisive battles and the largest naval battle in Norwegian history. Holy King Olav won the battle where 75 viking ships and 5000 men took part.
With this, King Olav Haraldsson( Holy Olav) took an important step in the long process towards Christianization and the unification of Norway.
This video contains video-footage from my drone as well as from my GoPro from this beautiful part of the south eastern coast of Norway.
The moraine field contains 16 larger burial mounds, four of which are large mounds with a diameter of 25-35 meters. In addition, there are 192 small mounds, located in eight rows parallel to the shoreline, and a single ship-shaped stone laying. In the ship's laying, fire-damaged stone has been found that probably originates from a fire pit dated to 80-350 e.Kr. The smaller mounds may be symbols of warriors who fell in naval battles or were shipwrecked with their chieftains. It is believed that the mounds furthest down towards the sea are from the late Iron Age and the Viking Age.
Helgeroa is a charming coastal village with a marina and several eateries. In the summer, Helgeroa is a popular holiday resort, with Blokkebukta beach and campsite.
In Helgeroa you will find the Nesjar monument carved and polished from blue granite from a local quarry. The monument shows an 8-meter-high column with a carved cross and a broken sword lying on the ground.
