Note: Carl Lewis was recovering from a virus in New Orleans and thus failed to make the U.S. team in the 100m, 200m, or the 4 x 100m relay. However, when Mark Witherspoon injured himself in the semi-final of the 100m in Barcelona, Carl was invited to anchor the U.S. 4 x 100m relay team. Carl's auto-timed split of 8.77 led the United States to the gold medal in this event. He also won gold in the long jump.
