[ Mission 10: Counterstrike ]

Captain's Log, Stardate 7507.2. The recent discovery of a new Klingon
Starbase has interested the Admiralty, as it appears to be a staging area for
Klingon raids. Our job is to destroy it with the assistance of a new prototype
cloaking device originally taken from the Romulans. We're not sure what to
expect in its performance, but our reliance on it will be heavy, as the base is
well defended.

Personal thoughts:
This mission ties into the events of TOS S3E2 "The Enterprise Incident".
In it, Kirk in seemingly a fit of exhaustion and irritation orders the Enterprise
to the Romulan Neutral Zone where they get captured. Through trickery and ingenuity
the Enterprise gets away with a Romulan cloaking device. This would eventually lead
to the Treaty of Algeron which banned Federation research into cloaking devices and
the withdrawal of Romulan forces until their return in TNG. This isn't the end of
the cloaking device though. It was used to cloak an entire Starbase in the S31 novel
"Cloak" but for what purpose? Well.. You'll just have to read it yourself.. Ω
Or maybe it somehow survived that time to end up here hmm...

For this mission, we'll have the USS Sutherland and USS Calcius with us.
A destroyer and a light cruiser respectively. Kinda wish we had the Achilles..

The Klingon Patrol is not to sneeze at. Burst one down as fast as you can.
Then gang up two on one until it's severely weaken and make sure you help
weaken the other one too, or destroy it.

For the Starbase, take a cue from how the Romulans do. Get up really close
before decloaking and then unleash hell. Make sure you try to keep the station
in your way so the Klingons can't target you, especially not that D7 heavy cruiser.


[ Federation Light Cruiser ]

The Federation Light Cruiser is a Miranda class starship, same as the Reliant
in ST II: Wrath of Khan. It is a very potent ship. Reliable, good, balanced.
It's primary weapons are a set of 4 Type 2 Phaser arrays - Fore and aft.
And secondary are a pair of Mark II Photon Torpedo launchers, one fore and one aft.
This gives it a very balanced arm allowing you to broadside fire reliably which
is the Federation's preferred tactic, but when the situation calls for it you
can go all in with a strafe and dump of unloading firepower.

It's speed is noted as Average but that's still good, and it's shield is above
average for it's class, making it superiorly defended compared to it's Romulan
contemporary, but not the Klingon one. The Romulan Light Cruiser is above average
in speed, average shields, with a forward firing arc preference, and the Klingon
Light Cruiser is average speed, above average shields, but has a fore-preference
of firing arc. To deal with them, you'll want to be in their rear ends.

But what above average shielding effectively means is that the Fore-facing shield
will have a second layer compared to the rest, so you can take a beating from the
front a while longer. Be more aggressive.
