I'm an electronic engineer.
The installation was at least confusing, because there were a lot of cables that could be used, or not be used, instead other cables could be used. I connected the screen several times using different cables....

EDIT: Disconnecting the Decoder box actually will disable CAN bus communication with the Tesla screen. So, the decoder box is needed, and apparently only needs to be connected on 1 end.
