We landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka and traveled around Gampah to visit with relatives. It was evident from the first day we arrived that Sri Lanka had enhanced their security with an obvious military presence following the terrorist attacks just a month earlier.
First, we headed to the Cinnamon Grand Hotel for a traditional Sri Lankan wedding followed by the homecoming events in Kandy.
Then we were off to Nuwara Eliya AKA "Little Britain" to stay at our Post Office Bungalo and visit the Moon Plains to see Sri Lanka's tallest mountains before heading off to ride along the Nine Arches bridge- one of Sri Lanka's engineering marvels.
After a good night's sleep it was time to head south to Udawalawe, where we visited one of Sri Lanka's oldest Buddhist Temples as well as a Hindu Temple and participated in some traditional rituals.
We stayed close by at Max’s Safari Villa (Highly Recommended) before heading out to the National State Park to observe the local wildlife. Later we visited the Indian Ocean on the very most south point of Sri Lanka to watch the waves roll in.
The next day we were back in Colombo taking in some sights at the Galle Face Hotel where we had breakfast and visiting the Gangaramaya Temple (Again Highly Recommended) where we saw all types of novelties and rare collections.
Lastly, thanks to all the kind donations, we were able to purchase much-needed STEM supplies and toys for a local school which we visited and shared the day with our new friends.
