‎‏Hi, I’m Mr Taster and I’m in Karbala, Iraq. I’ll be tasting the Iraqi kebab and reporting on Mawkebs that offer votive food to the pilgrims.

First we went to the old Al-Salam kebab shop on Mohammad Amin Street in Karbala, Iraq. It has been serving delicious kebabs for over 30 years. Their famous Iraqi kebab is grilled over a charcoal barbecue and served on fresh bread with tomatoes, onions, and sumac. The addition of pickles makes for an extraordinary bite. Kebabs are also distributed as a religious offering among the people. If you're looking for a tasty and authentic kebab experience, Al-Salam is the place to go.
‎‏After that we visited the Mawkebs that during religious pilgrimage offer votive food, one of which is Iraqi kebabs made with fresh meat, skewered and grilled on a large charcoal grill. The sizzling and crackling sound of the kebabs is delightful as they are turned to cook on both sides and then placed inside bread to distribute among the pilgrims for free. The crowded atmosphere is filled with people enjoying the flavorful kebabs and lighting candles in honor of Imam Hussain.
‎‏Another dish was the grilled Masgouf fish, a popular dish in Iraq, particularly in Karbala where they have live Masgouf fish available to choose from. The fish is prepared by washing, removing the insides, and sprinkling salt before being grilled over charcoal. The grilled fish is then served with pomegranate sauce and Iraqi bread, creating a delightful combination. The fish eggs are also grilled and served, adding to the overall deliciousness of the dish.
‎‏We ended our report with Iraq tea, a beloved beverage made by mixing tea and lots of sugar using traditional methods. It is especially popular during the Arbaeen ceremony in Karbala, where many cups are constantly being prepared and served in Na'lbaki cups, which enhance the unique flavor of the tea.
