Trees, flowers, vines, fruit, wreaths, palm branches, & laurel crowns were used everywhere by Jews, Pagans, and Christians in the ancient world for symbolism and ceremony. In both the Old and New Testaments, such flora (even if it was also used by pagans or even donated to God's people from Gentile lands) was used for metaphor and literal adornment of sacred spaces (Isaiah 60:13; 1 Co. 9:25).

Yet, today's Scrooges in the form of secular revisionism and puritanical fundamentalism falsely assert that Christmas itself and its customs (trees, wreaths, lights, etc.) are nothing but a pagan accretion upon the gospel. But even if Christians "baptized" some pagan customs to make them harmless symbols of Christ, this is good! To say otherwise is to commit the genetic fallacy. Thus to attack the feasts of the Church and even the most common popular customs that stem from them is to attack the Catholic Church and what she proclaims and celebrates in her liturgy. Surprisingly though, Christmas trees are actually connected to some of the most significant trees in the Bible. Watch the film to learn more.

Directory 109: "Inauguration of the Christmas tree: This event also offers an opportunity for family prayer. Apart from its historical origins, the Christmas tress has become a potent symbol to-day and is very diffuse amongst Christians; it evokes both the tree planted in the centre of Eden (Gen 2, 9), and the tree of the Cross, which lends it a Christological significance: Christ is the true tree of life, born of human stock, of the Virgin Mary, the tree which is always green and productive. In the Nordic countries, the tree is decorated with apples and hosts. "Gifts" can be added; but among the gifts placed under the tree, something should be included for the poor since they belong to every Christian family."
