USB C® Testing of USB4® Transmitter During Link Training

In this video we’re going to use the WaveMaster 8000HD oscilloscope to measure the signal quality on a USB4 Transmitter during link training. With 15 possible presets in Gen2/Gen3 and 42 possible in Gen4, it can be useful to verify that presets are being set correctly in an active system.

The WaveMaster 8000HD enables triggering on the Sideband TxFFE register setting in the low-speed USB4-SB bus, and observing the resulting TxFFE preset change on the high-speed Transmitter lanes.

SDA Expert software makes it easy to set up an eye diagram for this USB4 Gen3 device at 20Gb/s.

WaveMaster 8000HD's unique combination of sideband serial triggering and high-bandwidth performance make it the only instrument that can perform this measurement.
