Walking backwards for exercise has often been brought up as a possible way to help bone on bone knee arthritis.

The reality is that although it might give some short term relief, it’s actually pretty bad for you.

Our bodies are not designed to keep up walking backwards for any extended period of time. We end up using muscles that make knee osteoarthritis worse. Plus it’s flat out dangerous to do this outdoors, in the park, around the block and even inside your home.

With the exception of certain sports and rare situations, walking backwards is just NOT necessary.
