After its grand opening in 1924, media proclaimed that Gleneagles was the “8th Wonder of the World” and called it “The Glorious Playground.”

In 1921 (before the hotel opened), Gleneagles hosted their first golf tournament between American and British players, which is considered to be the precursor to the Ryder Cup.
