Fritz Kreisler's Caprice Viennois is one of my favorites. It's a slow and sentimental piece that suddenly springs to life in the middle.
The piano parts in Kreisler's compositions are so well written - there are always interesting lines, gorgeous harmonies and good voice-leading. it's clear that he must have played the piano very well and was a great musician, not only a great violinist. As I'm getting playing the piano parts of various little showpieces, I find Kreisler's piano parts much more rewarding than those of Sarasate or Wieniawski.
Interestingly, he was very modest about his composing, sometimes claiming that his compositions were folk tunes or works by other composers that he had rediscovered.
