Old Joe Clark is a tune that all bluegrass musicians will recognize. It was written by Samuel Downey around the turn of the 20th century. Early recordings include versions by Cowan Powers and his Family (1924) and The Kingston Trio (1962). The song has changed some over the years. Though it still holds true to the basic melody, my banjo arrangement will be how it’s widely recognized among bluegrass jams.
