OCEAN TO LAKE TRAIL HIKE | 61 miles of Florida Everglades

Описание к видео OCEAN TO LAKE TRAIL HIKE | 61 miles of Florida Everglades

In mid January I backpacked the Ocean to Lake Trail over three days. The trail starts at Lake Okeechobee and ends at Hobe Sound Beach, and is a spur of the 1200 mile Florida Trail. The hike consisted of a 19 mile day, 25 mile day, and a final 19 mile day. If you're going to do this hike I highly recommend doing it in January to April as these are the driest times in this part of Florida. In mid January, there were about 7 miles of water walking, a few miles of mud walking, about 7 miles of flat road walking, and the rest was trail.
The trail passes through three parks:
Dupuis Management Area
JW Corbett Wildlife Management Area
Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Water was plenty available for filtering along the trail, but is not for the faint of heart. I used the sawyer squeeze and mostly took water from canals, carrying two liters at a time. The water didn't taste great but I never got sick from it.

There are eight campsites available along the Ocean to Lake Trail, with varying requirements for reservations.
Dupuis - Loop 4 Campsite
Dupuis/Corbett - Powerline Campsite
Corbett - Litte Gopher Camp
Corbett - Bowman Island Camp
Open Clearing in the Lox Slough
Lucky Tract in the Lox Slough
Jonathan Dickinson SP - Kitching Creek Campsite
JDSP - Scrub Jay Site

There is really only one resupply opportunity on the hike from what I saw. At the Indiantown road crossing there is a Mexican restaurant, a pizza place, and a well stocked 711.
