Starting next Thursday, March 25th, South Korea's cryptocurrency exchanges will be subject to stricter monitoring to prevent money laundering and other illegal activity.
The Financial Services Commission says it's approved a change to the law... that will require exchanges, and other cryptocurrency businesses, to register with the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit the country's anti-money laundering watchdog.
They'll have to implement Know-Your-Customer protocols... and monitor and report any suspicious transactions.
The owners of businesses that fail to register in the next six months, or break the new rules, will be subject to no more than five years in jail or a fine of up to 50 million won about 44 thousand dollars.
