North Somerset Rewilding Champions

Описание к видео North Somerset Rewilding Champions

In 2019, North Somerset Council introduced a project to rewild as much of our parks and open spaces as possible. Over the next three years they introduced around 30,000 new trees and around 400,000 square meters of tall grass across their parks and open spaces in North Somerset. Their aim is to turn these green deserts in thriving habitats that increase biodiversity across the region.

Following a successful National Lottery Heritage Fund bid in 2020, they partnered with Avon Wildlife Trust to launch the Rewilding Champions project. Avon Wildlife Trust worked with local residents across the region to survey the rewilded areas and record the plant and wildlife species there, alongside running engagement events to attract new volunteers and get people interested in their local green spaces.

They have now been able to train up a group of Rewilding Champions who will be working with North Somerset Council officers going forward and will help train new volunteers in the future. For more information and to sign up as a Rewilding Champion, please see: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/rewilding
