Honoring our children's consent and autonomy is a vital ingredient in keeping them in touch with their humanity. Traditional parenting is designed to separate us from our relationship with ourselves. It is designed to break the connection to our deep wisdom.

This is why giving kids the message that there autonomy and consent are valid and valuable is so important to their sense of self.

It is not creating entitlement, as we hear so often. Entitlement is a reaction to a disconnection from self. When we feel disconnected from our essence, we try to make up for it through the external. And this often manifests as what people call entitlement. But it is in fact a response to an insecurity.

This is why we put in great efforts to honor our children's bodily autonomy, we want our kids to have a deep and stable relationship with themselves. We want them to know their worth.
