Faint “tide lines” cling to the stainless-steel doors as if the tower is slowly drowning from the inside, and the floor indicator stops showing numbers—becoming a steadily rising floodline instead. In the mirrored doors, the resident sees their reflection stepping out onto a floor that doesn’t exist, moving first as if the elevator has already decided for them. People whisper about Tidemarkvell, a tall water-stained presence that lives in elevator seams, feeding on the moment you hover between choices and hope someone else will choose for you. The rule is simple and strict: if the elevator display turns into a floodline, press and hold “Door Open,” take one full breath, and silently choose what you’re really going to do next—then exit at the next real floor without looking into the mirror. Because if you whisper “take me somewhere else” out loud inside the car, Tidemarkvell will oblige—and you’ll spend the night riding a building that keeps filling with water you can’t see.
