In this video you can ride along on Autoroute A89 E70 & the M6 from Balbigny to Lyon in central eastern France. The A89 is a 472-kilometer long highway running horizontally through the interior of France, essentially connecting the cities of Lyon (East) and Bordeaux (West).

In some places it joins existing Autoroutes, which are double-numbered. Examples are A75 at Clermont-Ferrand and A20 at Brive-la-Gaillarde. The A89 has a long history of construction, starting in the 1970's. The latest segment to be opened, was the last part of A89 until the junction with A6 South of Lyon (featured in this video as well). This segment was opened in March 2018.

As the A89 traverses the Central Massif (mountain range in central France), it reaches quite high altitudes. You can notice this in the video as we are descending towards the Alps, as strange as it sounds. You can see that some of the infrastructure here is relatively new or at least from this century, including a few tunnels.
