With 810 solar panels installed on one of the UK’s busiest motorway service areas, this project shows how solar can work at scale for high demand, 24 hour commercial sites.

We speak directly with the Group Operations Director at Extra MSA about why Cobham Services was chosen for their first solar project, how the tender process worked, and why Spirit Energy was selected to deliver the installation.

The conversation covers the realities of installing solar on a live motorway services site, including working around constant footfall, deliveries, night time scaffolding, and strict operational requirements.

We also discuss how solar fits into Extra MSA’s wider ESG strategy, their net zero target for 2040, and how this system will offset around 68,000kg of CO2 per year, with approximately 96 percent of the energy generated used directly by the building.
