In the summer of 2003, young writer Philip Adressen (Alexander Sternberg) invites a colorful party to a former GDR vacation resort for his birthday. Family and friends gather, including Philip's mother Ingrid (Monika Schubert), a famous actress, her boyfriend Boris (Augustin Kramann), a successful author, and Philip's lover Nina (Ruth Hornemann), whom he has perform excerpts from his first novel.
The urge to break out into new artistic forms while remaining entangled in family ties are central themes in Chekhov's timeless play 'The Seagull'. The family drama, a roundelay of unfulfilled longings and failed loves, takes its course, driven by Philip's desire to dissolve the boundaries between art and life. The next day, everyone is in for a big surprise.
