Welcome to our Romance Language Challenge, where we test the mutual intelligibility between Venetian and other Romance languages! If you're a speaker of French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish or any other Romance Language, let us know if you can understand what word is described in this mini-challenge.

The Venetian language, also known as Veneto or Venetan, is a Romance language spoken primarily in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, which includes Venice and its surroundings. It is also spoken in some areas of Croatia, Slovenia, and Brazil due to historical migrations. While it shares similarities with Italian, Venetian has its own distinct grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, making it a separate language.

Although not officially recognized as a separate language by the Italian government, the Venetian language has a rich literary tradition and a strong cultural identity. It boasts an extensive collection of literature, poetry, and theater works, some of which date back to the Middle Ages. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in preserving and promoting the use of Venetian, with efforts made to teach it in schools and encourage its use in daily life.

Despite these efforts, the Venetian language is still considered vulnerable by UNESCO, as younger generations tend to use Italian or other languages more frequently. However, the continued appreciation and celebration of the Venetian language and culture ensure that it remains an important part of Italy's linguistic heritage.
