Targeting specific notes—the root (1), fourth (4), and fifth (5) of the scale—that correlate with the A, D, and E chords in a blues progression, he highlights the importance of playing notes that match the underlying chords to sound more melodic and intentional.

He provides a step-by-step approach, including locating the A, D, and E notes in pentatonic patterns, applying the concept in a quick-change 12-bar blues backing track, and using techniques like slides, bends, hammer-ons, and vibrato to enrich the sound. He suggests that mastering this in one position before moving across the fretboard and learning in different positions is key to improving.
