I have been using this sort of method for years now. IT WORKS! I believe it works by killing off the bacteria that is the cause of the smell and that may also be causing hard water problems. I think that the device along with the steel well pipe, is producing oxygen through electrolysis. The extra oxygen is killing off the bacteria like hydrogen peroxide or chlorine would do if put in the water. So this uses zero added chemicals to eliminate the rotten egg smell. I wish I had a way to SHOW you that it works. But it is so cheap to build, you can do it to prove for yourself. I believe this can be used for most bad water conditions to purify drinking water from bad bacteria. OK NOW, I used a 12 volt DC power supply with less than .5 amps to run this. The positive lead is connected to the device that goes down the well (titanium). The negative lead is connected directly to the well pipe (casing). I had been using various grades of stainless steel with two plates in the same device. But I found no grade that would not degrade after a while. Even 316L did not last. I used 16 gage speaker wire going to the device with a small nylon rope taped every 10 feet or so to help support the wire from breakage. I leave it running 24/7. I have it just a couple feet off the bottom, and below my pump height. It should not be on the bottom or above the pump, or pump input, which should always be several feet above the bottom of the well. The titanium should last many years.
