The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the recently completed Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage Facility near Buckley, Washington, February 17.

Special guests included Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, 55th Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Brig. Gen. D. Peter Helmlinger, P.E., USACE Northwestern Division Commander; Col. Alexander (Xander) Bullock, USACE Seattle District Commander; Bill Sterud, Puyallup Tribe Chairman; Jaison Elkins, Muckleshoot Tribe Chairman; and Henry Chen, Chief of Engineering, Cascade Water Alliance.

This facility is the largest trap-and-haul fish passage facility in the United States and it is designed to transport up to 60,000 fish a day.

USACE’s regional design team for this massive project included more than 150 employees from three Corps districts and two architecture and engineering firms. Several regional stakeholders also collaborated in the design, including the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, Cascade Water Alliance and National Marine Fisheries Service.
