Hydrostatic pressure | How does hydrostatic level measurement work?

Описание к видео Hydrostatic pressure | How does hydrostatic level measurement work?

Which instruments are used for hydrostatic level measurement? In this video, we explain how hydrostatic pressure is measured and what hydrostatic level measurement is.

We also discuss the different types of instruments that can be used to measure hydrostatic pressure, such as submersible pressure sensors (also known as level probes) and pressure sensors, to name a few.

How is hydrostatic pressure measured?
Hydrostatic pressure is a measure of the force exerted by a liquid or gas on a surface.

What is hydrostatic level measurement?
Hydrostatic level measurement is a process used to measure the height of a liquid column above a given point. This is done by immersing a pressure sensor into the liquid (submersible pressure sensor) or by installing it into the vessel wall. By means of the hydrostatic pressure measured in this way, the height of the liquid above the measuring point can be calculated.

What kind of measuring instruments are used for hydrostatic level measurement?
WIKA offers a variety of solutions for hydrostatic level measurement. The most commonly used solution is a submersible pressure sensor, also called a 'level probe'.
Measurement can also be done using a traditional pressure sensor, in this case a fixed installation will be necessary.

In special cases such as the measurement in sealed vessels, the gas pressure must also be measured with a second pressure measuring instrument. If the gas pressure is now subtracted from the total pressure, this will result in the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column, from which then the correct filling height can be determined.

Alternatively, this procedure can be carried out with a differential pressure measuring instrument, i.e. with only a single measuring instrument.
