Day 1: Indigo Flight CCU (Kolkata) to VNS (Varanasi) – 9:35 AM direct to Banaras
We planner to visit Sarnath & Chunar fort straight from Airport. Accordingly, we hired a cab that was waiting at the airport for us & without wasting any time we headed straight to Sarnath first. Via NH31 amazing road we reach Sarnath in around 40 mins (26 KM) & visit:
The Mahabodhi Society
Chaukhandi Stupa
Banarasi Silk Factory

Then we head to our hotel Trimrooms Buddha Varanasi that we booked from booking.com without any pre-payment. 29th July check-in & 31st July check-out. Then as per our plan we planned to stay the 3rd night in a premium & heritage property of Banaras.

After quickly checking in we got ready to visit Chunar Fort in Mirzapur District – this time it’s around 1.5 hrs of dive. Both Sarnath & Chunar Fort timings are 9 AM to 5 PM. We reached the fort around 4:30 PM & enjoyed this place thoroughly. With an amazing location on Kaimur hilltop on the southern bank of Ganga this place will surely be my one of the top 5 recommendations in Varanasi – a must visit place.

After a time travel of 1.5 hrs or so, we enjoyed every corner of the fort & of course clicked a lot of photos & then came out to have a fantastic masala tea from a stall just out of the fort.
Finally we head back to the hotel & after a filling dinner just take rest & quickly sleep.

Day 2: Next morning starts early – by 5:30 AM we were all ready to visit Kashi Viswanath Temple. We got a shared Toto that tool 20 Rs per head to go to temple gate no. 4 from our hotel in Ramkatora road, which is less than 3 km away from the temple. You can reserve a Toto or Auto as well that charge around 100 Rs one way.

From the point the Toto dropped us, we straight went to Dashaswamedh Ghat via Gadowlia Chowk. This was an amazing morning at Dashaswamedh Ghat – with an unforgettable vibe of the place. Then we asked police & locals so we could get inside the newly built corridor of the temple ditching the line of thousands or more people standing in the queue for Darshan.

Finally, after an hour in the galis of Benaras & checking on hundreds of temples in every turn of the gali, we could reach the Viswanath temple corridor that reaches straight to Ganga Ghat. We could explore all - from the new Food Court to the ghat, area of the temple where camera, shoes are allowed. Beyond one point you need to keep everything in a safe (no cost) & then enter the Garva-griho of the temple for Viswanath Darshan.

We a heart full of satisfaction we then come out of the temple – this journey, this walking for straight 3 hrs in hot & humid July was not easy – but pays off. We reached Blue Lassi Shop to satisfy our taste buds, but it does not serve before 9:30 AM. It was around 9 AM, so we came out & tried lassi from another shop, which didn’t disappoint us.

We took a Toto again & this time reserved it to our hotel, as we were really tired.
