This was the best home computer version of Yahtzee that I played for the year 1979. It nicely shows off the new TI's capabilities. If you've never played, you should… Yahtzee is a nice, orderly game with 5-dice and although mostly luck, does involves a little strategy. Should you write off a bad roll with a 0 in the Yahtzee, or hold up hope for the big 50 pointer? Go for the upper score bonus, or take the bigger score now? Strategy!

The usual drawback of old computer games is that it's more tedious, by far, than quickly rolling real dice. That's why quick-playing Yahtzee works well in the real-world. Thankfully, it's also quick and simple on this cart - allowing you an easy way to pick the dice you want to keep, while you roll up to a total of 3 times each round. The main benefit of playing on a computer is you always have a willing opponent. That, and you don't have to waste paper writing down scores.

This was one of TI-99/4's first batch of games, and probably the best one of that first year. Worth playing to see the gaming origins on this system… even if it is an easy game to find and play (and probably is better) on iPhone and Android.
