EPISODE 30: Join me as I share my story, as a patient. I’ve been seeing cardiologists since I was 14 years old. Back then, I passed out so often that doctors told me to drink pickle juice, tested me for pregnancy, or dismissed me as “anxious.” What they didn’t do was check my heart.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. Living with a chronic heart condition has shaped not only my daily life, but also the way I practice medicine today as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.
In this episode, I share:
My journey from teenage patient to physician with a diagnosis
The stigma and disbelief women and young patients face in healthcare
How I advocate for myself (and teach my patients to do the same)
The lifestyle changes that keep me healthy
Why choosing not to become pregnant was the right choice for me
Why your doctor doesn’t have to “live your exact experience” to take great care of you
