In today's Bitwig Studio 4.3 music production tutorial we look at using various alternative sequencer techniques that don't use the arpeggiator to create some cool rhythmic and broken chords. All of the tricks I show you Bitwig Native devices so you don't need any other plugin to make this work.

The first device we look at is the Note Repeats - a MIDI FX we can use to create Euclidean rhythms. By adding multiple instances of the device in a round robin set Note FX selector, we can create stuttered chord patterns.

The second technique uses the Ricochet Note FX, fed into a Quantizer device set to adjust to 1/16th notes. Adjusting the dimensions and rotation of the room, we can change the pattern of the ball sprays, along with adjusting the ball speed, size and damping.

The third technique uses the Ratchet feature, also called Note Repeat Rate; one of the newer 'Operators' available in Bitwig. By increasing the ratcheting of individual notes in a chord distinctly and then applying the Quantize device set to 1/16th notes we can create interesting rhythmic chord patterns.

The fourth and final technique uses another 'Operator'; this time the Recurrence feature. By creating a very short 1/16th note loop of a chord and then adjusting the Recurrence rates of each note in the chord separately, we end up with beautiful patterns we would never think to program into the DAW.
