Emily Dickinson’s poem explores how people adjust to uncertainty and hardship, using “darkness” as a metaphor for the unknown or difficult moments in life. As our eyes gradually learn to see in the dark, so too does the human spirit adapt and find its way through confusion and loss. The poem captures both vulnerability and resilience with quiet, timeless grace.
