A deadly multi-vehicle pile-up on Japan’s Kan-Etsu Expressway has left one person dead and at least 26 others injured. The crash occurred Friday evening in Minakami, Gunma Prefecture, after two trucks skidded on an icy road and collided, triggering a massive chain reaction involving 56 vehicles. More than 10 cars caught fire, leaving a long stretch of the highway littered with burned and unrecognisable vehicles. Police and firefighters worked through the night as sections of the expressway were shut, with travellers urged to take alternate routes.
