Steve Carell, who played the unforgettable Michael Scott, confirmed he won’t be returning for the new series. Speaking at the premiere of his new movie, "IF," Carell told The Hollywood Reporter, “I will be watching, but I will not be showing up.” He explained, “It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that.”

Carell is still excited about the project, though. “It sounds like a great concept,” he continued. “I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company. I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads. I did ‘The Patient’ with him, and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy, so I think it’ll be great.”

"The Office," where Carell's character Michael Scott became a fan favorite, ran for nine seasons from March 2005 to May 2013. Even though Carell won’t be part of the new series, he remains supportive and curious about its direction.

However, the reaction on social media has been mixed. Fans on platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter) have shared their doubts and concerns about the new show since it was announced.

The new series is co-created by Greg Daniels, who developed and executive produced "The Office," along with television writer Michael Koman. It will be set in the Dunder Mifflin universe but will introduce a fresh cast of characters. According to Deadline, the show will follow the documentary crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch as they find a new story in a dying historic Midwestern newspaper, where the publisher is trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

The untitled series will air on Peacock, with production beginning in July. No release date has been announced yet, but fans are already buzzing with speculation and anticipation.

As we wait to see how this new chapter in the "Office" universe unfolds, it’s clear that it will bring something fresh and intriguing, even if it’s without Michael Scott’s quirky presence. The spinoff promises to blend familiar humor with new dynamics, offering a new adventure for viewers to enjoy.
