Bonebottom ~ Hollow Knight: Silksong Cover

This game might release someday.

Having beaten Hollow Knight only two short years ago, I admittedly haven't had to wait nearly as long for its much-awaited sequel as most have. Nonetheless, I certainly am excited for it. Hollow Knight heavily discouraged me when I first played it in 2018, but years later, after giving it another shot, it grew into one of my favorite games ever. Though relentlessly difficult, the game is nothing short of satisfying to progress through, and I'm sure the sequel will be just as amazing.

Bonebottom is a town that will serve as Hollow Knight: Silksong's hub area. This piece that accompanies the area is one of the select few that have been revealed prior to the game's release, and it does not fall short of the expectations set by Christopher Larkin's previous work in the series. Hollow Knight's soundtrack is beautifully sobering, just as this track is.

I've wanted to cover this piece since I first heard it around over a year ago. With many crazy collaborative covers (alliteration not intended) on the horizon, I've found myself working on a lot of shorter and less time-consuming projects in order to give my larger ones the proper time and attention they need. This cover was a result of that. The arrangement is simple and almost identical to the original. I took another opportunity to record my shakuhachi, as I've loved doing recently, and as I was working, I noticed that the piece held an emotional weight that would lend itself perfectly to a powerful shakuhachi solo. I'd been searching for an excuse to really play my heart out with the instrument in a cover in a way that pre-written parts simply didn't allow for, so I was super excited to improvise on this! I think it turned out really nicely.
