What type of video-call background person are you? Most people don't think much about their background when presenting, but in my opinion, they should.

Backgrounds are funny because they unintentionally communicate so much. And if you’re giving a big presentation via your laptop, you want to give your background extra scrutiny. And I don’t just mean clean it up.

The problem I see is that backgrounds are surprisingly distracting. We all start to examine them, as if we're visiting the presenter's home for the first time.

Do your self a favor the next time you give a big presentation: keep your background simple and BORING. That way, all the focus and attention is on you and your material.
