Lyricist Anjaan was born on October 28, 1930, in Odar village near Banaras city in Uttar Pradesh. During his college days, young Anjaan used to participate in almost every poet's conference-mushairas held in Banaras. Once famous singer Mukesh had come to Banaras.Anjaan's friend Shashi Babu (owner of De Paris Hotel) took Sameer with him to a concert at the Clarke Hotel. Shashi Babu made him meet Mukesh here. When Mukesh heard the poem, he was impressed by this young poet. At the same time, he advised Anjaan to write songs for Hindi films. However, Anjaan, who was suffering from asthma during that time, did not follow Mukesh's advice
But one day he had to leave Banaras and go to Mumbai because of this disease. Seeing the dangers of asthma, doctors told Anjan that if you want to stay alive, you will have to leave this city soon. When asthma increased a lot and he started suffering a lot. Then the doctors advised him that if you live on the shore of an ocean,Only then will asthma be controlled. Then he came to Mumbai in 1953 for the sake of his illness and better climate. After coming here, he met Mukesh.
After which Mukesh introduced him to director Premnath, who Was looking for a new lyricist for his film. He offered Anjaan to write songs for his film 'Prisoner of Golconda'. But the songs written for his first film did not do well. He got Rs 500 as remuneration for writing the songs of this film.
The song of the film 'Don' brought fame to Anjaan
In the beginning of his career, he used to approach music directors of films, but could not find work. He didn't even have a place to live. For a few days, he was taking a room in the Aroma Guest House with four of his friends. Later his friends also left leaving Anjan alone. They spent the night in local trains for a long time. For this, he had made a railway pass for less money.
At one time he used to spend the night by placing his bed under the stairs of the apartments. After meeting Mukesh, Anjaan got work in the first film, but he got fame very late. Amitabh Bachchan starrer film 'Don' took him to all heights of success.
Jami Anjaan pair with Kalyanji-Anandji
Anjaan had worked with almost all the legendary musicians of that time in his career, but his pairing with Kalyanji-Anandji proved to be very successful. Being from Banaras, he developed a special relationship with Amitabh Bachchan as well. He wrote songs for many of Amitabh's films. These include big hits like 'Don', 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', 'Sharabi', 'Namak Halal' and 'Yaarana'. The memorable songs written by Anjaan include the song 'Jaye Band Akal Ka Tala', 'Khul Mere Man Ko', 'Mere Man Ko' from the film 'Don'.Wrote more than one and a half thousand songs for about 300 films
Anjaan, who wrote 1500 songs in about 300 films, always regretted one thing. Despite writing more than one evergreen hit song, he never received the Filmfare Award. On September 13, 1997, at the age of 66, lyricist Anjaan said goodbye to this world. But his priceless treasure in the form of songs is still fresh on people's lips. Anjaan is survived by two sons, Shekhar Pandey and Sheetla Pandey (lyricist Sameer). His younger son Sameer is also a lyricist and has registered his name in the Guinness Book of World Records for writing the maximum number of songs. This lyricist, who gave unique songs to Hindi cinema, had objections on some of his songs. Sameer says, 'When Papa wrote the songs of Disco Dancer, he told me that it was feeling Like I am raping my pen. How are people getting these songs written. Anjaan was worried about one more thing that despite writing many evergreen songs, he was not given the Filmfare Award. Azim Funkar Anjaan, who made cinema face to face with the fragrance of regional dialects, finally left this world on 13 September 1997. His priceless treasure in the form of songs is still on people's lips.Director K. Vishwanath used to respect his father a lot. He got the songs written for his films Sanjog and Ishwar, which became a super hit. Once director Arjun Hingorani was sitting with Dharmendra and father. Hearing was a little out of ear, so he said to Hirani, 'You get me a hearing aid, cut it out of my money.' This thing touched Dharmendra ji's heart.Which was mentioned by Dharmendra during one of his promotions.
Shekhar told, father was self-respecting. He never took help from anyone, even if it was his real brother Gopal ji. At that time Gopal ji used to be the PRO of big producers and directors and was also very rich.
