Hooverphonic is a Belgian rock band known for their trip-hop sound, which has enjoyed international recognition since its formation. Initially named Hoover, the group changed its name after a copyright issue. The band is one of the few musical acts widely recognized in both parts of Belgium. Today, the band consists of bassist and programmer Alex Callier, guitarist Raymond Geerts, and keyboardist Geert Noppe. In 2020, Geike Arnaert returned as the lead singer after a 12-year hiatus.

Formed in 1995, Hooverphonic quickly rose to fame. Their first album, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular (1996), included the track "2 Wicky," which was featured in the film Stealing Beauty. The band’s international breakthrough came in 2000 with the album The Magnificent Tree, which became a major success in Europe and the U.S., and included hits like "Mad About You" and "Vinegar & Salt." They gained significant exposure by performing at the opening ceremony of the UEFA European Championship that year, watched by a billion viewers.

In 2002, they released the concept album Jackie Cane, followed by successful tours in Europe. Their 2005 double album (No) More Sweet Music achieved gold status in Belgium even before its release, eventually going platinum. However, issues with their record label Sony/BMG led to a split, and the band signed with PIAS, gaining creative autonomy.

Hooverphonic explored a new musical direction with the 2007 album The President of the LSD Golf Club, which, despite being their least commercial work, received positive reviews. After a period of lineup changes, including the departure of singer Geike Arnaert in 2008, Noémie Wolfs took over as the lead vocalist in 2010, contributing to the album The Night Before.

In 2018, Luka Cruysberghs was introduced as the new vocalist. The band was selected to represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hooverphonic later participated in the 2021 contest with the song "The Wrong Place," placing 19th out of 26 in the final. Geike Arnaert rejoined the band in 2020, with the lineup being considered the "core Hooverphonic" by many.
