Grooming and Body Handling Your Puppy. #11

Описание к видео Grooming and Body Handling Your Puppy. #11

Teaching your puppy to calmly accept and even enjoy grooming and being handled all over is an essential skill for the future, as so many older dogs find this difficult to cope with.

The subject of grooming and being able to readily handle your puppy all over is essential for all owners and of course, the more coat your dog has, the more relevant it is to you and your dog as it will require time and effort to achieve a calm and accepting dog.

I touch on how serious it can be if your dog does not allow such handling from the outset, as a dog that cannot be groomed can lead to all sorts of complications when at the groomers (think high levels of stress, shaving the coat and the possible need for a muzzle), right through to a dog that may need to be sedated and then clipped at the vets...this can be just as relevant for nail clipping too.

Yet again, this is another video that seeks to provide thoughts and advice so as to avoid the problems in the first place, rather than to need my in-depth help later on so as to overcome the specific issue. Prevention is always better than cure!

Making an effort to carry out short, positive grooming and handling sessions with your puppy on a regular basis will help avoid all of these nightmare scenarios I've outlined above and there is no reason why this should apply to you, with your young puppy, if you start out in the right way from the outset.

Carrying out these routines on a regular basis when the puppy is still young enough to accept and learn without fear (8-14 weeks is your golden window) will enable you to groom and handle your puppy with ease and this will then lead to a better dog-human bond, which is in itself a lovely thing.
