For the intro I wanted something different. Having just come off of the Dracula X and Gradius 2 custom soundtrack vids (2008), I felt I could do the same for the opening, but I needed the sound effects for Super Contra. Bumped into a program called Hoot, which is a sound emulator for many, many Japanese computer and arcade games (and more). Super Contra was supported, so getting the SFX was easy. The arranged version of "What is this place?" I have on a CD called Konami Battle the Best, and it's the first track.
