Seattle City Council will consider proposal to address sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue

Seattle City Councilmember Cathy Moore unveiled a new proposal to institute loitering laws aimed at prostitution on Aurora Avenue in the north part of the city.

Moore said issues around sex trafficking, including multiple shootouts, have escalated in the last several months, prompting a need for the city to implement a new strategy.

Aurora Avenue and nearby neighborhoods have faced escalating gun violence and turf wars between pimps, driven by commercial sexual exploitation.

Moore, who represents District 5, said the legislation will give police officers additional tools to disrupt the prostitution and gun violence associated with it, particularly along Aurora Avenue, by expressly targeting buyers and promoters.
