On 28 March 1964, Radio Caroline - Britain's first commercial radio station - began broadcasting. As the pioneer of pirate radio celebrates its 60th anniversary, ITN Archive presents this special 1965 report telling the story of Radio Caroline and the British state's attempt to clamp down on Caroline and her commercial contemporaries. The report includes an interview with the captain of Radio Caroline South, Captain Persun, and the station's founder, Ronan O'Rahilly. The first and, to this day, most famous of the 1960s pirate radio stations, Radio Caroline was the main inspiration for the 2009 Richard Curtis comedy drama The Boat That Rocked.
