In a battle of unbeatens, Auburn came into the "Swamp" with a 17 game winning streak. Florida was undefeated and ranked #1, and on track for a chance at a national championship. The game was played at the "Swamp" where Florida hadn't lost to an SEC opponent under coach Steve Spurrier.

The game played out with both teams going on runs. Auburn jumped out to an early lead and held a 22-14 lead at halftime. In the 3rd quarter Florida's Heisman candidate quarterback Terry Dean was replaced by Danny Wuerffel. Florida would take the lead in the 4th quarter with Wuerffel playing quarterback. The teams would trade scores but late in the game Auburn was able to get one last chance to score. With 0:36 left in the game Auburn scored the game winning touchdown to win the game 36-33 and defeat #1 Florida in the "Swamp" and keep their undefeated streak alive.

Notes:

After the win, Auburn's winning streak would go to 20 games in a row before tying Georgia in 1994.

After the loss, Florida would go on to win 25 straight SEC games(including SEC Championship Game wins). They would not lose another SEC game until 1997 when they would lose to LSU.

Florida would also not lose another home game at the "Swamp" until 1999 when they would lose to Alabama.
