Tamás Ittzés comes from a musical family as both of his parents are music teachers and his father is the director deputy of the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét. He began to study violin at the age of six. He took his first piano lesson when he was eight. He finished the musical high-school as violinist but also received 2nd prize at the National Solfeggio (and Folk Song Singing) Contest. He took choir conducting and violin at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest and graduated in 1993 when he was given a red diploma (which means all scores were the highest). His violin teachers were Prof. Mária Vermes (1988-1990) and Mária Zs. Szabó (1990-1993) and he studied chamber music under the direction of composer György Kurtág, pianist Ferenc Rados and others. He began teaching in the world famous Kodály School in Kecskemét where he mostly teaches in the musical high school section but has also been dealing with beginners. He not only teaches but was concert master of the local Symphony (1996-1999) and plays in concerts both as soloist and chamber musician. And directs his Bohém Ragtime Jazz Band – mostly as pianist.
