Here's how to change the Spark Plugs on a Mini R56 with either the 1.4 or 1.6 petrol engine along with the coil pack(s).

It's a cold winters day and this was done in the snow so I'd advice doing this when it's a little warmer! It's a really easy job to do and you only need basic tools.

The car used is a 1.4 Mini ONE from 2008 however this procedure is the same for all the 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines in the R56 models.

This car has a misfire as well and the EML light illuminated and sadly on these engines it's a common fault for the valve stem seals to leak oil into the cylinders. I had hoped it was something minor like the spark plugs as these had never been changed from new, or coil packs, but obviously watching the video you can see the amount of engine oil contamination on cylinder 1, 2 and 3 indicates a bigger issues on this one. However if you are just wanting to service your own plugs then this is how to do it. It's super easy and shouldn't take more then 30 mins.

Links to tools and parts used:

14mm 12 point thin wall spark plug socket - BMW Mini have used a different fitment on the OEM plugs to standard plugs so you will need one of these sockets if you car is fitted with the original plugs:

4x Iridium tip spark plugs - you do not need to fit OEM BMW Mini plugs, however it is best to stick with the Iridium tipped ones which match OEM. A set can be found here, while these should fit all 1.4 and 1.6 engines please double check with your reg and/or VIN:

For regular plugs you will need a standard 16mm plug socket, which can be found here:

A single coil pack if you need to replace them can be bought here, again these should be ok for all 1.4 and 1.6 models but please confirm before buying using your reg or vin number:

This is how I did the job, I am a just a car enthusiast and have basic tools. The video is meant as a guide for entertainment purposes only. If it helps someone that's fantastic but if in any doubt then always consult a professional mechanic before undertaking a project yourself.
