HG Wells famously said that people are in a race between catastrophe on one side and education on the other. (Wells, 1920). OXFAM reports the simultaneous breach of the environmental ceiling for a safe and just space for humanity to inhabit through biodiversity loss, climate change, destabilized nitrogen and phosphorous cycles, while it simultaneously records the failure of social institutions to answer the global need for water, food, energy, income, equality and education. While more than 50% of the world’s population is moving into cities, this workshop presents methods for empowering youth voice in greening schools to catalyze new urban ecologies.

Engaging youth in the design of their homes, schools, and cities introduces civic imagination. It introduces workshops for K2 (Green Dollhouse), 3-5 (Creativity in the Classroom, Nature Play in the Play Yard), 6-8 Green Schools, 7-12 (Biomimicry Workshops) allowing students the opportunity to collaborate, explore, envision, and draw and build.
